Is Frontier or Xfinity your best provider?

Thinking about Frontier or Xfinity services for your home? Frontier is now available in 25 states nationwide and covers about 11% of the U.S., while Xfinity is available in 39 states and covers about 36% of the U.S. population, according to the FCC. Areas where Frontier and Xfinity service may overlap include parts of Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, central California and West Virginia. Here’s how Xfinity’s service compares to Frontier overall:

  • Best for cheap internet: Xfinity has lower starting internet pricing than Frontier.
  • Best for fastest internet: Frontier offers the fastest plan with speeds up to 5,000 Mbps. Xfinity offers plans with speeds up to 3,000 Mbps in select areas.
  • Best for TV packages and bundle savings: Xfinity will be your best bet for signing up for new TV services and taking advantage of bundle savings.
  • Best for overall customer satisfaction: Xfinity scores higher for internet service, but the two rank about the same for TV, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ASCI).

Frontier vs. Xfinity internet

Regardless of which Frontier internet service is available in your area, Xfinity is likely to give you more plan options. Available speeds and pricing will vary, but Xfinity typically presents six or seven plan options with speeds ranging from 25 to 3,000 Mbps.

Frontier Fiber comes with fewer plan options than Xfinity, but offers choices of fiber plans from 500 to 5,000 Mbps. On the other hand, Frontier Internet may have only one DSL plan to choose from as this service is limited to whatever speeds are available at your address.

In general, if you can get Frontier Fiber at your address, it will provide faster upload speeds than Xfinity, but its DSL plans are usually on the slower side. Xfinity has some of the fastest download speeds in the country, but its upload speeds are usually lower, which could be a problem for activities like online gaming.

Frontier vs. Xfinity bundles

Frontier doesn’t offer true internet and TV bundles like other providers. Instead, it partners with independent TV providers and streaming services to offer TV plans. You can add live TV service from DISH satellite TV, DIRECTV STREAM, Sling TV or Fubo TV, but there’s no real benefit to doing so — the price is the same whether you bundle with Frontier or not.

Bundling Xfinity services, on the other hand, can get you discounts to the tune of $10 off the monthly price per service for the first year.

We’ve listed some popular Frontier and Xfinity bundles below for you to compare. Keep in mind, Frontier doesn’t offer TV service itself, but partners with other providers. More Xfinity internet and TV bundles may be available in your area, too.
