Viasat Data Caps
Viasat offers unlimited internet access. However, it does cap high-speed internet usage based on your plan. It measures your usage over a billing period. If you have used 70% of your high-speed data for the month, they will notify you via email.
And if you reach the limit, Viasat could throttle your download speed. That means while you will be able to do online activities, ones that require a faster download speed like gaming or streaming a video will take longer to do.
Currently, Viasat’s data caps range for each plan tier are:
- Basic: 12-15 GB
- Bronze plans: 35-80 GB
- Silver plans: 45-120 GB
- Gold plans: 65-200 GB
- Platinum 100: 150-300 GB
Certain internet plans come with The Free Zone, which is a block of time each day after midnight with unmetered uploads and downloads.

Viasat Frequently Asked Questions
All of Viasat’s internet plans come with unlimited data, so technically, there are no data caps. However, Viasat will throttle your internet speed once you’ve used a certain amount of data. You can use the internet as often as you want, and with as many devices as you want, but eventually your connection will slow down.
Viasat internet is decently priced, but there’s a catch — the monthly rate increases after three months of service. You can purchase the Unlimited Bronze 12 plan for $50/mo., the Unlimited Silver 25 plan for $70/mo., the Unlimited Gold 50 plan for $100/mo. and the Unlimited Platinum 100 plan for $150/mo. With any plan, expect to pay more than the offer price after three months.
Viasat is upfront about the cost of their service, so there aren’t any hidden fees, per se. However, there are required costs on top of the actual plan price. For example, there is an installation fee of $99.99, an equipment lease fee for about $10/mo. and a service fee that depends on your plan. If you want to get Viasat internet without a contract, it’ll cost you a non-refundable deposit of $300.
